Rowley has been shown to have his own diary called Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid where Rowley is the protagonist and Greg is the main antagonist. Rowley claims that Greg had nothing to do with the comic strip in the first book, a rare antagonistic move from him. Rowley is also the owner of the comic strip Zoo Wee Mama!. Rowley has what Greg considers strange interests for his age and gender, such as loving a singer for "six-year-old girls" named Joshie and action figures Greg believes are for younger kids. At the end of the book, the couple breaks up and he becomes friends with Greg again. This plot continues in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, where he ditches Greg for his new girlfriend Abigail. At the end of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel, Rowley begins dating Abigail Brown, a girl who was originally Greg's date for the Valentine's Day dance. Rowley is depicted as a friendly and good-natured but naive boy who sticks with Greg despite the latter getting him into trouble on multiple occasions. He is 12 years old and is shown to play pranks in Greg's point of view while technically in a third-person view. Rowley Jefferson is characterized to be Greg's best friend. Wesley Kimmel will replace Brady in Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever. In the film series, Greg is portrayed by Zachary Gordon in the first three films, Jason Drucker in The Long Haul, and Brady Noon in the animated films. Rowley can't concentrate on his homework because Greg is annoying him, showing that Greg is using his friend for nothing other than no labor. In Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid, Greg uses Rowley to do the former's homework. However, he also occasionally demonstrates a degree of kindness in some of his actions when he’s able to put this goal aside. He is shown to frequently go to great lengths to achieve popularity, even if it means displaying antagonistic behavior or abusing his best friend, Rowley. He is depicted as the middle son of Frank and Susan Heffley, and an 11–12-year-old middle school student who aspires to be massively popular above everything, despite everything not leaning in his favor. Greg Heffley (also known as the wimpy kid) is the central character of the series.
